Custom tooled in basket weave design fast draw holster for a Colt single action inset with 2 silver conchos belonging to Western legend John Wayne. The back of the holster is inscribed neatly in script “John Wayne Red River”. A letter of authentication accompanies this lot from Bob Brown noted Hollywood personality and saddle maker who worked for all of the early western legends in Hollywood from the 1940s to the late 1970s. Bob Brown knew the Duke well and most of the other Western stars of this era for whom he produced holsters, saddles, belts, wallets, hat bands and other Western style items on custom order. He wrote books on tooling leather and making saddles. A signed letter of provenance from Bob Brown documents the fact he was given the holster back by John Wayne after he had used it in 4 western films as he preferred plain leather with no carving. Brown also adds anecdotes about wearing western costume and appearing in films where Brown gave The Duke advice. With the lot is an original lobby card in color for the movie “Red River” starring John Wayne
